December 12, 2008
I just turn down one of the biggest opportunities of my entire career. There are many who feel the economic blues, they may be one of the laid-off workers, who failed to get the job after the draining interview and most likely wasn’t able to find a job. But I, was painfully and deeply hurt by my worst decision ever made. I was short listed in an interview as a Senior Laboratory Instructor in Economics at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Currently, we are living in Toronto where my hubby works full time with the compensation enough for our decent meal, roof and clothing. The job offered to me “if” successful is part time and did not mentioned of becoming a full time someday.

My decision in rejecting the offer is all about money and time for my family. We don’t have enough money to sustain for my stay in Victoria, My hubby will stay in Toronto for his job for us to continue earning while I am earning big bucks but half of the time, since it is part time. My hubby could not cook for himself, he is extremely “do not know” how to handle household chores, my son will stay with me in Victoria and in day care while I’m working. All of these don’t make sense. We come to Canada to be together and now because of this part time long awaited job will keep us apart again.

Before our life settle in Canada, I and my son were in Bangkok, Thailand, the country where I worked for many years. While, my hubby is in Pakistan working, I deals things alone from being pregnant (hubby stays few days only after the birth of the baby) to until my son was two-year old. I joggled myself from washing clothes, cooking, feeding, to the nanny, pick-up and worked full-time at the University with extra supervisory jobs. I got annoyed and fed-up of maximum work-out. And, now it seems it will happen again, there I saw the troubles and that’s the reason I turn-down the offer.
